Incentive, tax and market-participation rules for energy storage, and the distance between a published mechanism and revenue a project can actually bank. Each piece works from the primary text of the rule and says what it does not cover.
Italy Raised Its Battery De-Rating Factors and Cut Them. Both Headlines Are Correct.
On 19 October 2026, one trade publication reported that Italy had raised battery de-rating factors for the 2028 capacity market. On 20 October, the same publication reported that Italy had cut capacity market ratings for four-hour batteries in the south. Both headlines describe the same ministerial decree, and both are correct. The word in the […]
Batam’s 16-Hour Outage and a 19% Reserve Margin: What the Record Does Not Say
On Monday 12 October 2026, the grid serving Batam and Bintan failed. Power was out for about 16 hours, more than 411,000 customers were affected, and water supply and telecommunications went down with it. Supply was restored to roughly 99% by Tuesday. Rolling blackouts of up to six hours continued into Wednesday because demand exceeded […]
Johor data centre power: RM30 billion of financing against a nodal grid constraint
DayOne doubled its Johor financing to RM30 billion on 13 October 2026. Malaysia has already committed about 8.3 GW of data centre supply against a 21.3 GW system peak, and just over half of it lands in one state. The binding constraint is not generation but 132 kV substations at two tech parks, and no published instrument pays a battery to support a specific network node.
Battery energy storage procurement in Malaysia: the four routes and what each one requires
Malaysia has four published routes to procure battery storage: the MyBeST utility tender, mandatory storage inside the LSS6 solar auction, CRESS corporate PPAs, and own-consumption capex under GITA. They differ in who contracts, what the battery is paid for, and whether storage is the product or a condition. None of the four pays a merchant battery.
Malaysia Budget 2027 and BESS: what changed in the GITA tiers
Budget 2027 extends the Green Investment Tax Allowance to 31 December 2030 and keeps battery storage in Tier 1, while solar moves up alongside it and green building and energy efficiency drop out. What the industry asked for, what it got, and two places the tax summaries disagree.
Malaysia cut the CRESS access charge to 14 sen/kWh. The gap it opened is the storage case.
Malaysia cut the CRESS firm-supply access charge to 14 sen/kWh on 18 September 2026. The firm/non-firm gap is now 26 sen - here is what that pays for.
China’s Battery Export Tax Rebate Ends 1 January 2027: What It Adds to a BESS Price
The export VAT rebate on Chinese battery products fell from 9% to 6% in April 2026 and goes to zero on 1 January 2027. What it adds per kWh, why it may not reach your invoice, and the four contract clauses that decide.
U.S. Energy Storage Tax Credits: What Developers Need to Verify
Important: U.S. energy storage tax-credit analysis should be treated as a project-level eligibility exercise, not a headline summary. The applicable rule depends on the property, placed-in-service date, construction timeline, entity, sourcing and bonus-credit facts. This article is for research planning, not tax advice. What credit and property definition should you start with? For business-scale projects, […]
The Tax Credit That Wasn’t Cut — and Almost No One Can Claim
When the U.S. passed its major budget bill in July 2025, storage looked like the winner of the clean energy fight. Solar and wind lost their investment and production tax credits on an accelerated timeline, phased out by the end of 2027 unless construction starts before mid-2026. Storage’s own credits weren’t touched by that particular […]
